The mildly face-lifted LX series Torana arrived in February 1976. Cosmetically, the most obvious changes were to replace the LH’s rectangular headlights with round headlights, side window surrounds were changed from body colour to black, and the front Holden badge was enlarged. A two-door hatchback body was introduced as an alternative to the four-door sedan. With a base price of $6’008, Holden offered the choice of 3 different engines from a 6 cylinder 3.3 litre – 8 cylinder 4.2 and 5.0 litres ($7,275 for the latter), and automatic and manual transmissions, for the Torana SS Hatch. In all, there were some 8,527 Hatches produced (all Variances SL- A9X included).

This 1976 Holden Torana SS Hatch rolled off the line in April from the General Motors plant. It was originally sold on the 1st of July 1976 in Wauchope NSW. It comes with its numbers matching L31 5.0 litre engine, as well, as its numbers matching M-21 close ratio 4-speed manual transmission. To this day, the car still dawns its factory Papaya colour with original side stripe stickers. The Papaya clour was one of the most popular colours for the SS Hatch. Another feature is its removable Hatch Hutch, which is quick and simple to remove and put back on- this rare item is also included in the sale.

This 164,700km “Survivor” SS Torana is largely original and still retains its original- Gazelle interior, glass, radio, hubcaps, mudflaps and right down to its original spare tyre!!,  It recently received an Award for Best Holden Original at a Show and Shine Event. Included in the sale is a Letter of Authenticity from Holden and also Certificate of Authenticity from HHS (Holden Historical Services) This SS Torana is fully documented; owner’s manual, previous pink/green slips, and several odometer disclosure statements are included with the sale. Other documentation includes numerous receipts and even the vehicle build sheet. The car runs and drive well and is a real “Survivor” of one of Australia’s most iconic muscle cars!

This is a very rare and unique opportunity to purchase a reasonably low mile, numbers matching, fully documented, “Survivor” 5 litre manual SS Hatch. These are very special factory built cars and most certainly will be an appreciating asset well undervalued compared to the highly collectable A9X.
