HSV made waves in the Australian performance car market in 1996 with the introduction of the XU-3 Yellow VS GTS-R. Marketed as the closest HSV road car to it’s race-winning HRT Australian Touring Car Championship counterparts, only 86 GTS-Rs were produced—76 for the Australian market and 10 for New Zealand.

HSV GTS-R Build No. 042 

This ultra-rare flagship model was exclusively available in XU-3 Yellah, featuring carbon fiber inserts and a prominent HRT-inspired carbon fiber rear wing. The GTS-R was powered by the HSV and Ron Harrop-designed L98 stroker engine, boasting a 101.6mm bore and 88.4mm stroke, totaling 5737cc. This powerhouse offered a notable increase in performance over the standard five-litre engine, with 215kW of power and 475Nm of torque, compared to the original 185kW and 400Nm. Paired with a Tremec T56 six-speed transmission and “Hydratrak” limited-slip differential (LSD), this combination ensured a driving experience that delivered both style and substance.

Build No. 042 has been meticulously maintained, covering only 33,863kms genuine and documented kilometers. It is presented in immaculate, unaltered, and original condition, complete with it’s Logbooks and HSV Authenticity Certificate.

Mechanically, the GTS-R has been serviced regularly using recommended oils and performs as expected for a high-performance HSV. While an engine strut brace has been added, the car remains otherwise factory-original.

The GTS-R rides on its original alloy rims (colour coded to the car- as per Dealer Invoice) fitted with Bridgestone Potenza 235/45R17 tyres. The spare wheel is also original, featuring a Bridgestone Expedia 205/55 ZR16 and the factory tool kit.
