This exceptional GT has been maintained, improved, and cherished by a lifelong Ford enthusiast and qualified motor trimmer who purchased it brand new and kept it garaged for its entire life.

Early History & Mechanical Evolution

During his apprenticeship at Hastings Deering Sydney, the owner worked around the legendary XR GTs. Not long after running in the XT GT, he upgraded the braking system to the earlier XR GT single-master setup for more consistent stopping power.

Period Performance Enhancements (1975 approx. 30,000 miles)

In 1975, the car received a series of era-correct performance upgrades, including:

Genie extractors

Twin exhaust system

Bert Jones cam

High-rise manifold

600cfm Holley carburettor

These improvements provided noticeably better performance and helped prepare the GT for motorsport activities.

Motorsport Participation

Thanks to its enhanced drivability, the XT GT successfully competed in a variety of club motorsport events, such as:

Lap dashes

Hill climbs

6-hour relay races

It proved to be a fun, competitive, and dependable club car throughout this period.

Further Mechanical Enhancements

As time went on, the owner continued to refine the GT with high-quality upgrades aimed at longevity, safety, and drivability:

XW master cylinder and booster

Engine Rebuild – 2024

In early 2024, after detecting a light engine noise, the owner proactively commissioned a complete rebuild, its first since 1975 at 230,000 miles.

Assembly completed by a trusted motorsport engine builder (also campaigns a 1965 Mercury Comet)

All receipts accompany the car. The rebuilt engine now runs exceptionally smoothly, thanks to the extensive balancing work.

Body, Panels & Condition

Many original factory panels remain intact

Replacement front guards fitted decades ago after minor incidents

Original paint still present on the roof, boot, RH rear guard, and RH rear door

Several sections resprayed over the years

Historic rust repairs to lower door corners (20+ years ago) with some rust beginning to return

RH rear door shows original rust, consistent with age

Overall, the car presents well as a genuine driver. A full repaint would elevate the exterior significantly, but it remains a charming, honest, and usable GT as is. The owner has always described it as a “go car, not a show car” capable of cruising confidently at 90 mph.
